NFHA’s AI Policy Principles
NFHA has developed a set of eight core AI policy principles that inform how we evaluate AI legislation and shape national advocacy on AI issues. The principles, Alignment, Infrastructure, Protection, Liability, Autonomy, Concentration, Enforcement, and Safety (AI PLACES) provide a consistent framework for civil rights-driven decision-making about NFHA’s AI policy priorities and advocacy positions. We believe that AI has the potential to expand access to fair and affordable housing, credit, and economic opportunity for all consumers, but only if it is developed and deployed responsibly, transparently, and in compliance with civil rights law.

The Responsible AI Lab at the National Fair Housing Alliance (RAIL) was invited to participate in a Center for AI Standards and Innovation (CAISI) workshop on Barriers to AI Adoption in Financial Services. The workshop convened industry, government, and civil society stakeholders to identify what is preventing responsible AI adoption in the sector and to surface potential solutions. This document reflects RAIL’s contributions to that discussion.
